Sunday Scribblings: Action

This week's Sunday Scribblings prompt is action.

Of the Romantic Movement,
a glimpse at Giselle.

"...sprites in white gowns with hems that are perpetually damp,
fairies whose little satin feet mark the ceiling of the nuptial chamber,
the snow-white Willis who waltz pitilessly the whole night long,
and wondrous apparitions encountered in the Hartz mountains
and on the banks of the isle glimpsed in a mist bathed by German moonlight." (Giselle, par. 9)
-Heinrich Heine

Her fate is death and the daunting rest of time.

  1. You have to be ballet buff to be transported in this way. Great pics.

    1. Thank you. It's a place that I haven't ventured to for nearly two decades. It's slightly beyond my reach these days, but it is nice to know that I can visit through writing.

ps. Many many thanks for scrolling beyond the scribbles!

  2. Just beautiful..that parting line and image cuts to the core..so much power..how hard it must be to not convey the effort underneath the hem line..Jae

    1. Thanks, Jae. That is the only line which is mine here so, thank you. This is just a portion of Heine's story, the rest is almost too much to convey...so maybe we should leave it to the dancers. :-)

  3. You weave words and images flawlessly. I haven't seen Giselle performed in many years; you breathed life into the memory.

  4. Hi Autrice. Happy to know that this took you to an old time. I wish that I could say I've seen Giselle, but I've only read parts of Heine's story and it is definitely as dramatic and infinite as some stories that belong to dance.

    Thank you for stopping by.
