Yet They Drop

Stars are dropping thick as stones into the twiggy
Picket of trees whose silhouette is darker
and from all selfsubtracting hugely doom
treasures of reeking innocence are born
Inspect the colder distances, the far
Escape of your whole universe to night;
That watch the moon's blue craters, shadowy crust,
Ballooned in ghostly earnest on your sight
It is your hope that you will know the end
The woods are a well. The stars drop silently.

*Words and evoked images borrowed from Sylvia Plath, e.e. cummings, and Edgar Bowers.

Written for dVerse Poets where Samual Peralta has us mixing others' words with Form For All: Collage and the Art of Cento. Great Fun!

  1. A beautiful tapestry, with threads from so diverse a crowd. The wonderful thing about this cento is that it stands well on its own, but also sends you seeking for the source material, to experience the originals as well.

    1. None of these words are mine, they are lines from the three poets I mentioned above. This is an exercise where pieces are collected from various sources and placed together as a sort of poem collage. :)

  7. How well you have combined their writing to produce sensations you can almost taste. What fearful truth is contained in the penultimate line.

  10. Just to watch such sights and suck them in is grand. Also escaping from ones land with the night falls, helps break down the walls. Nicely done!
